One millimetre paper gives beautiful resolution and is exhausting to look at. Five millimetre paper is comfortable and loses detail. Two millimetres sits in between: five squares to the centimetre, fine enough to place a data point to about half a millimetre by eye.
The heavier line every five squares does the real work. Without it, a 2 mm grid is a grey field; with it, the centimetre structure is obvious and you can count across the page.
Every sheet here is free, adjustable and prints at exact scale.
When you want fine resolution but still need to write on the sheet. At 1 mm there is no room for a pencil annotation between the lines; at 2 mm there just about is.
Around 0.10 to 0.13 mm for the minor lines. Heavier than that and the grid starts to fill in visually.
