One grid, any ruling

A pad of squared paper commits you to whatever ruling the manufacturer chose. Here the square is a number you set: 5 mm for a maths exercise book, 1/4 inch for an American classroom, 1 cm for a scale drawing, 2 mm when you need to read a plot closely.

The bold line every setting adds a heavier rule at regular intervals — every 5 squares for counting, every 10 for decimal work. It costs nothing on the page and makes a dense grid far easier to read across.

Questions

What size squares should I use?

5 mm is the school standard and suits most handwriting. Choose 1 cm for younger children or scale drawings, 1/4 inch if you are working in inches, and 1 or 2 mm only when you need to read fine detail off a plot.

Is grid paper the same as graph paper?

Yes. Graph paper is the term used in maths and science, grid paper the everyday word. Both mean a sheet ruled into squares.

Can I print squared paper with no margin?

Set Margin to None and the grid runs to the paper edge. Most printers cannot actually print the outermost few millimetres, so use the 5 mm margin if you need every line to survive.

How do I make the lines fainter?

Drop the line weight towards 0.05 mm and pick a paler colour. A pale grey or green grid guides your drawing without showing up in a photocopy of the finished work.
