Ruled paper is sold in a handful of fixed widths and none of them is right for everyone. American wide ruled is 8.7 mm, college ruled is 7.1 mm, and most European exercise books sit at 7 or 8 mm. Children with large handwriting need more; someone taking dense lecture notes wants less.
Here it is a number you set, so you can match the notebook you already use, or find the width that actually suits your hand rather than the one the stationer stocked.
The red vertical rule is not decoration. It reserves space for marking, for hole punches, and for the ragged left edge that a ring binder creates.

Turn the margin line on and leave its position at 22 mm. It is measured from the 10 mm page margin, so the line sits 32 mm — 1¼ inches — from the edge of the sheet, which clears a standard punch.
Turn on the name and date header block. It reserves a band across the top of the sheet and starts the ruling underneath it.
