PNG is a fixed grid of pixels. It drops into anything — slides, documents, image editors, web pages — and is exported here at 150 dpi, which is enough for screen work and light printing. SVG is the drawing instructions rather than the result, so it stays perfectly sharp at any size and the file is a fraction of the weight. Use SVG anywhere that accepts it, and PNG when something does not.
The transparent PNG export leaves the paper out and keeps only the grid lines, so you can lay it over a colour, a photograph or an existing slide layout. That is usually what you want for a design mockup; the white version is better for anything going to print, where a transparent area will simply be paper anyway.
A background grid should sit behind the content rather than compete with it. Pick a pale grey or a tint of your own brand colour, drop the line weight towards 0.1 mm, and widen the spacing a little — a background grid can be coarser than one you would actually draw on, because nobody is measuring it.
