A landscape page gives fewer, longer lines, which suits some writing better than portrait: a list you want to see whole, a timeline, a two-column comparison, or a child copying out a long sentence without breaking the line.
It also fits where a portrait page does not: under a drawing on the same sheet, in a landscape binder, or folded in half into a small booklet, where each half becomes a ruled page of its own.
